Default Yeadon Town Hall

Hi everyone,

My son is doing a project for Cubs, in which he is researching the history of Yeadon Town Hall. I was wondering if anyone had any information or stories about it's history that may help us.

Many Thanks

Maz

in your question of history about yeadon town hall, ther is a publication entitled yeadon town hall centenery 1880_1980, 7th to 15th june with a forward by the then chairman of the committee mr william hudson and mr barney colehan, which gives a good history of yeadon together with many old photographs during the period the script was written by a mr geoffrey woledge who was secretaryof the aireborough civic society
i do hope this may give you alead to further info

yeadon town hall and mechanics institute. was envisaged in 1878 and 16 trustrees were selected 8 on behalf of the town and 8 from the mutual improvement society.
the design of the building was a result of a competition, in which 200 architects took place a mr william hill of leeds won.
the land was purchased in two parts, an old quarry and some gardens purchased for 400 pounds and some old buildings and the old school for 650pounds the building itself was not to cost more than 5000 pounds

Richard Hogg, a relative of mine built it.I have got lots of family history info about him if anyone wants to know about him.

He also built Ilkely Cemetary. His last job was building some very grand houses on the road into Ilkley (on the right hand side about half a mile out of the town). He was never payed for this and went bankrupt. He died very skint in 1910.

His son built Highroyds Hospital in Menston.
